First of all, thanks for the photos and links - this is a fascinating case study in modern day PR.

In a way I kind of feel sorry for Unilever. Because of their old school structures and comms methods, it's difficult for BigCo to get it's head around new unstructured groups and the way they communicate. This makes them a very easy target.

I think there's only one way for BigCo to handle this kind of problem (apart from an old school mea culpa). They need to accept that their structure and governance is exactly the thing which prevents them responding in a timely and credible fashion. They need to provide an environment where all their staff have the freedom to respond in person, without the threat of being fired.

Most large companies are staffed by a majority of well informed, well intentioned people, who are scared to reply to blog posts and twitter comments on behalf of their companies because of the threat of disciplinary action. Having to go to the marketing department for a carefully-worded machine-read response puts BigCo on the back foot from the get-go.

Of course this takes power out of the hands of management and marketing, but really could it make matters any worse than they are at the moment?

Interesting comments, and in another indication that Unilever are only interested in user-generated content when it serves their purposes the UK forum on http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.co.uk has been closed since we launched our campaign.

Nope. seriously, some of these interactions have just been implemented such as Birds-Eye and the Routing lay-up.

Thanks or the tip on accessing Live. There's been a bit of a who-har on this hasn't there.? Particularly from those that love Live for it's collections etc.

Not an ideal roll-out strategy.

I should blog about it really.
